19-Year-Old Ventura County Man Killed in North County Collision on Interstate 5 near Basilone Road

North County, California (September 23, 2021) – A male driver died when his car slammed into the back of a big rig early Wednesday morning in North County, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened shortly before 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 22 on Interstate 5 near San Onofre State Beach and Basilone Road.
As per the CHP report, a 19-year-old Ventura County man was driving a Hyundai sedan southbound on the freeway when, for unknown reasons, he rear-ended the big rig.

The man was airlifted to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
It is undetermined if alcohol or drugs played a role in the collision.
