Otay West, California (September 25, 2021) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating an accident involving a wrong-way driver that left at least one person with major injuries in Otay Mesa West on Saturday afternoon.

The wreck happened on southbound near State Route 905 at around 2 p.m.

According to the CHP, a faded red Honda Civic was traveling north on southbound I-5 when it collided with a Toyota Tacoma.

The impact sparked a multi-vehicle crash involving at least three other vehicles.

A passenger in one of the vehicles sustained a broken leg.

Two other parties were possibly injured in the collision.

The left lanes of southbound I-5 were temporarily blocked as crews worked to clear the scene.

The incident remains under investigation.
