75-Year-Old Aptos Man Killed, 2 Girls Injured in Santa Cruz County Crash on Highway 129 near Rogge Lane
Santa Cruz County, California (September 28, 2021) – An Aptos man was killed and two girls were injured Friday evening in a traffic collision near the Santa Cruz-Monterey county line, according to a California Highway Patrol report.
The deadly crash happened at about 6:15 p.m. Friday, September 24, on State Route 129 near Rogge Lane.
The CHP report states that the 75-year-old Aptos man was stopped on Rogge Lane and was attempting to make a turn onto westbound Highway 129 when, for undetermined reasons, he went directly into the path of a vehicle that was being driven eastbound by Ernesto Gallegos, 38, of Watsonville.
Both vehicles ultimately collided.

The Aptos man was declared deceased at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
Gallegos's two passengers, a 6- and 7-year-old girl, sustained minor injuries.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the collision.
An investigation into the crash is underway.
