Brandon Cleland ID'd as Man Killed in Mendocino County Crash on Highway 20 near Marina Drive
Mendocino County, California (September 28, 2021) – The Mendocino County Coroner's Office has identified the man who died Monday afternoon following a head-on collision near Lake Mendocino as Brandon Duane Cleland, 38, of Potter Valley.
The deadly crash happened at around 4:11 p.m. Monday, September 27, on Highway 20, just east of Marina Drive.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Cleland was driving a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck hauling another Dodge Ram pickup on a flatbed trailer eastbound on Highway 20 when he lost control of his vehicle, which crossed over the double yellow lines.
The Dodge Ram pickup truck reportedly entered the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a westbound 2017 Freight driven by a 26-year-old Ukiah man.

Cleland died in the crash.
The box truck driver was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Neither alcohol nor drugs appear to have played a role in the crash.
Authorities closed the roadway for nearly four hours during the investigation.
