7 Injured in Kern County Crash on Highway 166 at Grocer Grade
Kern County, California (October 1, 2021) – Several people were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle collision in Kern County on Thursday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident took place on Highway 166 at Grocer Grade at around 7:40 p.m. September 30.
According to CHP, a big rig hauling berries on Highway 166 crashed into the side of the mountain, spilling nearly 25000 pounds of berries onto the roadway.
A Dodge Ram and a Ford F-150 were following the big rig and slammed into the rig and the spilled berries.
The driver of the big rig from New York and six other parties, one of them being from Santa Maria and the others from Bakersfield, were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The highway was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.
The crash is under investigation.
