, California (October 1, 2021) – The County Medical Examiner's Bureau has identified the teen bicyclist who died Wednesday night after being struck by a hit-and-run motorist in Oxnard as Andres Hernandez, 16, of Oxnard,

The deadly crash happened at about 8:35 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, on Hemlock Street, just east of N Street, according to the Oxnard Police Department.

Police said Hernandez was riding his westbound on Hemlock Street when he was hit from behind by a vehicle that was also heading westbound on Hemlock, driven by 39-year-old Julio Sanchez of Oxnard.

According to the police, Hernandez had light and reflectors on the bike.

Bicyclist Killed in Oxnard Crash Identified

Hernandez was transported to the Ventura County Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Sanchez fled the scene without rendering to the boy. The suspect was later arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter after his car was discovered abandoned at Hemlock and Paterson Road.

The accident is currently being investigated.
