1 Suffers Major Injuries in Goleta Car Crash on Highway 101 near Gaviota Tunnel
Goleta, California (October 3, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a DUI car accident that happened Sunday evening in Goleta, resulting in major injuries.
The California Highway Patrol said the incident occurred at around 7:17 p.m. on northbound Highway 101, just about a mile south of the Gaviota Tunnel.
The wreck involved a white GMC Sonoma truck and a silver Honda Civic.
The female driver of the Civic, only identified as Zuller, called authorities advising that the truck sideswiped her and rolled onto its side, blocking the roadway. Zuller was stopped on the right-hand shoulder, just north of the traffic collision.
Another party reporting the accident told authorities that the truck was erratically driving before the traffic collision.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene to help the motorists involved.
According to the responders, one person suffered major injuries in the accident.
The truck driver was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol but was released and taken to the hospital for treatment.
The roadway remained closed until at 8:13 p.m., when it was reopened.
