44-Year-Old Prunedale Resident Killed, 1 Injured in Watsonville Crash on Highway 129 near Chittenden Road

Watsonville, California (October 4, 2021) – One person was killed and another was injured Friday evening in a traffic collision involving a semi-truck in Watsonville, authorities said.
The deadly crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m., on October 1, on State Route Highway 129.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2021 Freightliner was traveling eastbound on Highway 129 when the driver failed to slow down for the slowing traffic ahead and rear-ended a 2019 Dodge Durango, driven by a 30-year-old Firebaugh resident.
The impact pushed the Dodge into a cement barrier. The semi-truck veered into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming Mitsubishi, driven by a 44-year-old Prunedale resident.

Sadly, the Mitsubishi driver succumbed to their injuries while on the way to Natividad Medical Center.
The 30-year-old driver of the SUV sustained unspecified injuries.
Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the mishap.
The crash remains under investigation.
