Julio Vasquez Killed in Highway 129 Crash near Chittenden Road in Aromas
Aromas, California (October 4, 2021) – The Monterey County Sheriff Coroner's Bureau has identified the man who died Friday afternoon in a traffic collision outside Aromas as Julio Ramirez Vasquez, 44, of Prunedale.
The deadly crash occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 1, on Highway 129, just west of Old Chittenden Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a 50-year-old Salinas man was driving a 2021 Freightliner M2 eastbound on Highway 129 towards the train trestle when he failed to slow down for the slowing traffic ahead and rear-ended a 2019 Dodge Durango, driven by a 30-year-old Firebaugh man.
As a result of the collision, the Dodge slammed into a cement barrier while the Freightliner veered into the westbound lane, where it collided head-on with an oncoming 2018 Mitsubishi, driven by Ramirez Vasquez.

Ramirez Vasquez died from his injuries while on the way to Natividad Medical Center.
The driver of the Freightliner sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Natividad Medical Center. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, authorities said.
Intoxication was not suspected of having played a role in the mishap.
The crash remains under investigation.
