California Highway Patrol Officer Hospitalized after Highway 101 Accident near Seaward Avenue in Ventura

Ventura, California (October 4, 2021) – A California Highway Patrol officer was injured Monday evening in an alleged DUI car crash in Ventura, authorities said.
The collision occurred at about 5:50 p.m. on Highway 101, just south of Seaward Avenue.
According to the CHP, a 35-year-old Irvine man was driving a 2021 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Highway 101 when he swerved onto the highway's right shoulder to pass slower traffic.
A CHP officer driving a marked police vehicle southbound on Highway 101 in the No. 3 lane saw the Jeep approaching from behind. The officer then turned on his overhead emergency lights and warned the Jeep driver.
The driver of the Jeep reportedly swerved to the left and rear-ended the police car. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn.
Debris from the crash hit a third vehicle.

The officer, whose name was not immediately disclosed, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities determined that the Jeep driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. He was ultimately arrested and booked into the Ventura County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
The No. 1 and 2 lanes of Highway 101 were closed for several hours as the investigation and cleanup took place.
