2 Hospitalized after Highway 101 Accident near Golden Rule RV Park in Willits

Willits, California (October 19, 2021) – Two people were hospitalized early Monday morning following a head-on collision on a highway in Willits, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The major injury two-car crash occurred at around 2:50 a.m. Monday, October 18, on Highway 101, just south of Golden Rule RV Park.
A 2007 Mercedes S65 was heading southbound on Highway 101 at an unspecified speed and was exiting a left turn when it lost traction with the road.
The Mercedes reportedly traveled out of control and came to a stop facing the wrong way against the cement barrier.
Moments later, a southbound 2006 Nissan Tundra traveling in the No. lane was unable to avoid the collision. The Tundra eventually collided head-on with Mercedes.
Both vehicles sustained major damage following the collision.
Willits Car Crash on Highway 101 Sends 2 to Hospital
The driver of the Mercedes, a 53-year-old Laytonville man, was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by firefighters. He was then taken to a local hospital with a concussion and complaint of pain.
The Tundra driver, a 41-year-old Jacksonville man, sustained a broken right leg and bruised ribs and was transported to the hospital.
Southbound Highway 101 was shut down due to the crash.
Further details regarding the collision were not immediately provided.
The accident remains under investigation.
