Oceanside, California (October 24, 2021) – The County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the man who died Tuesday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash in Oceanside as Michael John Kelley, 65.

The deadly two-vehicle accident occurred at about 3:56 p.m. Tuesday, October 19, at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and state Route 78.

According to the police, Kelley was driving a 2006 Lexus southbound on Jefferson Avenue at a high rate of speed when he allegedly ran a red light at the intersection and collided with a 2000 Toyota 4Runner that was making a left turn to merge onto the westbound State Route 78.

After the collision, Kelley lost control of the vehicle, which slammed into a light pole.

Kelley was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, authorities said

Two other parties in the Toyota sustained minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.

It was not clear if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.

Further details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.
