Woodland Hills Woman Killed, 5 Injured in Van Nuys Crash on North Woodley Avenue

Van Nuys, California (October 24, 2021) – One person was killed and several other people were injured when a vehicle crashed into a restaurant in Van Nuys on Sunday night, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The accident happened at around 8:07 p.m.Sunday, October 24, during a pop-up Halloween event in the 7600 block of North Woodley Avenue.
Authorities said 18-year-old Luis Carrillo-Castaneda of Los Angeles was driving at high speeds on Saticoy Street when he lost control of his SUV, which crashed into the building.
According to witnesses, the SUV was being followed by the police shortly before it slammed into the restaurant.

The SUV struck a patron who was inside the restaurant. The victim, only identified as a Woodland Hills woman, died at the scene. Her name was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Five other people were treated for non-life-threatening injuries following the collision.
Carrillo-Castaneda was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
Further details on the crash were not available.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the accident.
