Malina Golphin ID'd as Woman Killed in Oakland Crash on Grand Avenue near Grand Lake Theater
Oakland, California (October 26, 2021) – The Alameda County Coroner's Bureau has identified the woman who died early Sunday morning following a three-vehicle collision in the Grand Lake neighborhood in Oakland as Malina Golphin, 34, of Hayward.
The deadly crash occurred at around 2:02 a.m. Sunday, October 24, in the 3300 block of Grand Avenue, just north of the Grand Lake Theater.
Authorities said a 2018 Toyota Prius, driven by Golphin, entered Grand Avenue from a parking lot on the east side of the road and tried to go southbound on Grand Avenue.
The Toyota was hit by a 2020 Audi Q5 that was heading northbound on Grand Avenue. The Toyota then collided with a southbound 2015 Mazda CX53.
Woman Killed in Grand Avenue Collision Identified
Golphin was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the front seat of the Toyota, a 33-year-old woman, was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Another passenger in the Toyota, a 30-year-old man, was hospitalized with minor injuries. All occupants of the Toyota are non-Oakland residents.
The driver of the Mazda, a 33-year-old Oakland woman, and her passenger, a 33-year-old woman, who is a non-Oakland resident, were transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Audi, a 25-year-old man, who is a non-Oakland resident, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Authorities later determined that the Audi driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. He was ultimately arrested on suspicion of DUI.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to call authorities at 510-777-8570.
