Motorcyclist Killed in Colton Crash on 215 Freeway near Barton Road

Colton, California (November 4, 2021) – A motorcyclist was killed Tuesday evening in a traffic collision on a freeway in Colton, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash happened at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 2, on the 215 Freeway, just north of Barton Road.
The CHP said a motorcycle was heading southbound on the 215 Freeway when the rider applied their brakes to avoid slow-moving traffic. The motorcyclist reportedly got into a “locked wheel skid” and traveled out of control.
The motorcyclist then slammed into the right rear bumper of a Buick SUV that was going at approximately 30 miles per hour.
Due to the impact, the rider was thrown off the bike and went under the left rear wheels of the trailer attached to a semi-truck in the adjacent lane.

Motorcycle Accidents in California
In 2019, California was leading in the number of registered motorcycles in the USA. The state has also, over the years, recorded high numbers of motorcycle accidents resulting in catastrophic injuries or death.
Some of the common causes of motorcycle collisions in California include:
- Motorcycle lane splitting
- Cars making left turns
- Speeding
- Driving under the influence
- Road hazards
Motorcyclists are more likely to suffer serious injuries when an accident happens compared to car passengers. This is so because motorcycles do not have many safety features such as airbags, safety belts or steel cage to protect riders. Instead, they rely on helmets and protective riding suits only.
