One Killed in Fiery Cajon Pass Crash on Interstate 15 Freeway near Oak Hill Road
Cajon Pass, California (November 22, 2021) – One person has died following a fiery collision involving a vehicle and a fuel tanker truck on a freeway in the Cajon Pass early Monday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The deadly crash occurred at about 6:44 a.m. on Interstate 15 Freeway, just south of Oak Hill Road.
The CHP said a silver Hyundai Accent was attempting to pass another semi-truck when the vehicle slammed into the fuel truck that had become disabled on the freeway's right shoulder.
Witnesses said the Hyundai was driving recklessly before the collision.
The Hyundai burst into flames after the crash and started a vegetation fire. Firefighters responded to the scene and extinguished the blaze.
Deadly Car Crash on I-15 Freeway in Cajon Pass
One person, whose name has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was declared dead at the scene.
The northbound lanes of the freeway were shut down until 9:42 a.m.
The CHP- Victorville office is investigating the crash.
