56-Year-Old Reseda Man Killed in Los Banos Crash on Interstate 5 near Cottonwood Road Thanksgiving night
Merced County, California (November 25, 2021) – A 56-year-old Reseda man was killed Thursday night in a two-vehicle collision west of Los Banos, authorities said.
The crash was reported to the California Highway Patrol officers at about 7:00 p.m. on Interstate 5 near Cottonwood Road.
According to the CHP, the Reseda man was driving a 1996 Toyota Camry northbound on Interstate 5 when he drifted into the center median to pass a 2013 Chevrolet Traverse.
The Toyota then traveled back onto the highway and clipped the front of the Chevrolet. After the impact, the Toyota lost control, went across both northbound lanes, veered off the road, and rolled down a high embankment before crashing into a Caltrans fence line.

The Reseda man had to be extricated from the overturned Toyota. Sadly, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next kin.
The driver of the Chevrolet, a Bakersfield woman, remained on the scene and called 911. She and her two passengers did not suffer any injuries.
Authorities believed drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision.
The accident remains under investigation.
