, California (November 26, 2021) – A 38-year-old Lamont resident Marcia Luqueleyson has been identified as the suspect who was arrested following a traffic collision that killed three people in  Bakersfield early Friday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash happened at around 2:27 a.m. on Weedpatch Highway, just north of Smith Road. Weedpatch Highway is also known as State Route 184.

Luqueleyson was driving her 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound on State Route 184 when she allowed the vehicle to cross over the solid yellow line into the opposite lane, where it collided head-on with a northbound 2005 Toyota Corolla.

The two vehicles acquired major damage in the crash and were blocking both lanes of the highway.

The Corolla driver was declared dead at the scene. Two passengers in the Cherokee also died at the scene of the accident.

Luqueleyson was extricated from the Jeep and taken to Kern Medical with major injuries. She was placed under arrest on suspicion of DUI.

Weedpatch Highway was closed at Smith Road for nearly three hours during the investigation. The names of the deceased victims have not been released pending the notification of their respective families by the Kern County coroner's office.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is asked to call the California Highway Patrol, Bakersfield Area, at 661-396-6600.
