Two People Injured in Natomas Crash on Interstate 5 at Interstate 80 Interchange
Natomas, California (November 30, 2021) – Two people were injured early Tuesday morning in a fiery wrong-way, head-on crash in the Natomas area of Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The collision happened at about 1:30 a.m. on Interstate 5 at the Interstate 80 interchange.
The CHP said a BMW sedan was heading northbound in the southbound lane of Interstate 5 when it collided head-on with a big rig.
After the impact, the sedan veered to the interstate's right shoulder and the big rig drifted into the center median area.
Debris from the crash was scattered on the freeway.
2 Hurt in Interstate 5 Collision in Natomas
The driver of the BMW was transported to a hospital to be treated for major injuries before being arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
A passenger in the big rig had minor injuries. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries.
A stretch of Interstate 5 was closed at the Interstate 80 junction for several hours while the investigation and cleanup took place.
The crash remains under investigation.
