Gerard Sprewell Killed in Escondido Crash on Interstate 15 near Bernardo Drive/Pomerado Road
Escondido, California (December 2, 2021) – Gerard Sprewell, 40, has been publicly identified as the man who died after his car slammed into the back of a big rig early Thursday morning in Escondido, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The 2:30 a.m. crash happened on the northbound side of Interstate 15, just south of the Bernardo Drive/Pomerado Road off-ramp.
The CHP said Gerard was driving his car northbound on Interstate 15 when he failed to see a slow-moving semi-truck that was also traveling northbound.
He eventually crashed into the back of the trailer attached to the semi-truck. Due to the impact, the car caught fire, which was extinguished by emergency responders.

Gerard was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The semi-truck driver stopped at the crash site and called 911.
Authorities believed heavy fog conditions played a role in the collision, which remains under investigation.
