Mendocino County Man Killed, Woman Injured in Sonoma County Crash on Highway 101 near Petaluma Boulevard Off-Ramp

Sonoma County, California (December 12, 2021) – A three-car collision has claimed the life of a man and left a woman injured Saturday evening in Sonoma County, authorities said.
The deadly crash happened at around 5:44 p.m. Saturday, December 11, on Highway 101, just south of the Petaluma Boulevard exit, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, an elderly man from Willits, Mendocino County, was driving a Chevrolet Silverado southbound on Highway 101 when he rear-ended a Ford F250 that had either slowed or stopped for traffic ahead.
A third vehicle, a Nissan Quest, that was traveling southbound then struck the two trucks. After the impact, the Chevrolet and the Ford swerved to the left and slammed into the center median wall.
Man Killed, Woman Injured in Highway 101 Accident
The driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.
A female passenger of the Chevrolet was transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. The other two drivers, both men, were not injured in the crash.
The southbound lanes of Highway 101 were closed for nearly one hour. As of 8:50 p.m., all lanes were reopened to traffic.
The crash remains under investigation.
