16-Year-Old Male Passenger Killed, Two Hospitalized after Interstate 580 Crash near Hopyard Road Off-Ramp in Dublin

Dublin, California (December 19, 2021) – A fiery multi-vehicle collision has claimed the life of one person and left two other people injured in Dublin early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The deadly crash happened at around 2:35 a.m. on the eastbound side of Interstate Highway 580 near the Hopyard Road exit, the California Highway Patrol reported.
According to the CHP, two vehicles collided on the eastbound side of the interstate. After the collision, both cars became disabled in the No. 2 and No. 4 lanes, respectively.
The driver of a third vehicle failed to notice the car blocking the No. 2 lane and rear-ended it.
The disabled vehicle that was struck from behind caught fire upon the impact.

A 16-year-old boy who was a passenger in the burning car died at the scene.
One occupant of the burned vehicle died in the crash. The name of the victim has not been released pending identification and notification of next of kin.
At least two other people suffered minor injuries and were taken to an area hospital. Their current condition was unknown.
Alcohol or drugs were not considered a factor in the crash.
The left four eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed due to the incident.
