At Least 1 Killed in Fiery Bakersfield Crash on Highway 99 near Highway 223

Bakersfield, California (December 20, 2021) – Emergency crews were dispatched to the scene of a deadly crash that happened Monday morning in Bakersfield, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Authorities received reports of the crash just after 8 a.m. on southbound Highway 99, just south of Highway 223.
The crash appeared to involve two vehicles, including one that went off the roadway and hit a tree. The engine block of that car detached in the accident and caught fire.
At least one fatality was reported following the accident. A Kern county coroner representative was requested to respond to the scene.
Gasoline from one of the vehicles spilled onto the roadway.
CHP is investigating the crash.
