1 Killed, 1 Injured in Interstate 8 Wrong-Way Crash in San Diego

, California (December 21, 2021) – A wrong-way crash has claimed the life of one person and left another injured Monday night on near Ocean Beach in San Diego, according to the  California Highway Patrol.

The deadly collision occurred at around 11:25 p.m. Monday, December 20, on the westbound side of the interstate near the Sunset Cliffs Boulevard off-ramp.

CHP said a vehicle was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of the freeway when it collided with another vehicle.

A caller told the CHP officers that the road was littered with debris from the crash, and two people inside the two involved vehicles were “not responding.”

Sadly, one person died in the crash. It was not immediately known whether the deceased was in the wrong-way car or the vehicle that was struck.

The westbound lanes of the freeway were closed at the Sport Arena Boulevard exit while the investigation and cleanup took place.

No further details regarding the crash were immediately provided.

The accident remains under investigation.
