Driver, Passenger Killed in Chilcoot-Vinton Crash on Highway 395

Chilcoot-Vinton, California (December 28, 2021)Two Reno residents were killed Tuesday morning in a collision involving a pickup and a big rig near the Nevada-California border, according to the authorities.

The incident happened on , just south of Pozzolan Road in the Chilcoot-Vinton area at around 10:22 a.m.

According to CHP, a 2005 Toyota Tundra, driven by a 41-year-old Reno woman, was traveling southbound on Highway 395 at an unspecified speed while a 2018 Peterbilt Tractor and trailer, driven by a 60-year-old Maxwell man, was heading northbound at about 56 mph.

As both vehicles approached each other, one vehicle crossed over the center median and collided head-on with the other vehicle.

CHP said the driver of the Toyota and her passenger, a 49-year-old man, also from Reno, were both pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Peterbilt did not suffer any injuries.

It is still unclear if drugs and/or alcohol were a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
