Pedestrian Killed, Jon Weir Arrested after Costa Mesa Crash on Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue
Costa Mesa, California (January 5, 2021) – A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after a collision that left a pedestrian dead on Tuesday night in Costa Mesa, according to Costa Mesa Police Department.
The deadly collision transpired at around 11:26 p.m. January 4, on Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue.
The CMPD said Jon Weir, 65, Garden Grove was driving east on Victoria Street when he crashed into a traffic pole, before overturning and catching fire.

A pedestrian who was on the sidewalk waiting to cross the street was also struck in the process.
Medics responded to the scene and pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.
The victim's identity was not released pending notification of the next of kin.
Weir was treated and transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
The crash led to the closure of all lanes of Victoria Street as authorities investigated the incident.
The CMPD is investigating the crash.
