Tuolumne Man Killed in Sonora Motorcycle Accident on Mono Way

, California (January 11, 2022) – A motorcyclist was killed late Monday afternoon in a collision with a car in Sonora, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The deadly crash took place on Mono Way near the onramp to the Highway 108 bypass on January 10, the CHP reported.

A 66-year-old Tuolumne man was riding his motorcycle westbound on Mono Way when he made a left turn across the traffic lane toward Highway 108, the CHP said.

For an unknown reason, a Jeep traveling eastbound through the intersection struck the motorcyclist.

Motorcyclist Killed in Mono Way Crash

The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, died in the crash. His name has not been disclosed pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Jeep, Jamie Fernandez of Sonora, was wearing a seatbelt and sustained minor injuries.

Authorities determined that one of the drivers had failed to stop at a red light prior to the collision. It is still unclear whether drugs and/or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
