Chico Man Killed in Sutter County Crash on State Route 99 near Nicholas Avenue
Sutter County, California (January 16, 2022) – A Chico man died following an early Sunday morning collision in Sutter County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened amid foggy conditions on State Route 99, just south of Nicholas Avenue.
Just before 2 a.m., a 50-year-old San Jacinto man was driving southbound in the northbound side of SR 99 when he collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle driven by a 24-year-old man from Chico.

The Chico driver died in the collision. His name was not immediately released.
The other motorist was hospitalized with major injuries.
The crash caused a shut-down of both directions of SR 99 for nearly four hours as authorities worked at the scene.
The collision remains under investigation by the CHP.
