Police Officer Injured in Shafter Crash on East Lerdo Highway near Cherry Avenue
Shafter, California (January 16, 2022) – A Shafter police officer was injured in a collision on Sunday morning on East Lerdo Highway, according to authorities.
The incident occurred near Cherry Avenue after 7:30 a.m.
According to authorities, the police officer was at the site of an earlier collision and preparing to set up flares when his patrol vehicle was rear-ended by a vehicle traveling west on East Lerdo Highway.
The officer, who was outside the patrol vehicle at the time, was struck in the process.

Authorities said the officer sustained moderate injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Dense fog and low visibility were believed to have played a role in the collision.
The CHP is handling the investigation.
