Officer Mathew Sanchez Injured in Shafter Accident on East Lerdo Highway near Cherry Avenue
Shafter, California (January 18, 2022) – Officer Mathew Sanchez has been identified as the Shafter police officer who was injured in a collision on Sunday morning in Shafter, according to a local news source.
The incident happened on East Lerdo Highway near Cherry Avenue after 7:30 a.m. January 16.
According to authorities, Officer Sanchez was at the site of an earlier crash and preparing to set up flares when his patrol car was rear-ended by a vehicle that was traveling west on East Lerdo Highway.
Mathew Sanchez Injured in Shafter Collision
Sanchez was outside the patrol vehicle at the time and was struck in the process.
Officer Sanchez sustained moderate injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Dense fog and low visibility were suspected to be factors in the collision.
The CHP is investigating the crash.
