David Melendez-Ruiz ID'd as Man Killed in Coalinga Car Crash on Jayne Avenue near Enterprise Parkway
Coalinga, California (January 20, 2022) – The man who died in a Friday car crash in Coalinga has been identified by the Fresno County Coroner's Office as David Melendez-Ruiz, 36.
The collision happened on Jayne Avenue, just east of Enterprise Parkway, on Friday, January 14.
Melendez-Ruiz, a Lake Elsinore resident, was driving a Honda eastbound on Jayne Avenue at an unspecified speed when he made an unsafe turning movement to the right onto the dirt shoulder of Jayne Avenue.
Melendez-Ruiz lost control and turned the vehicle to the left. He then drove on the dirt shoulder of the road and went across both the eastbound and westbound lanes of Janye Avenue.
Melendez-Ruiz's vehicle reportedly drifted into the path of oncoming traffic and collided with a van traveling in the opposing lane.

Melendez-Ruiz was killed in the crash.
It is still unclear whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
