, California (February 3, 2022) – A 20-year-old Modesto man has been arrested following a collision that left three teens dead in Modesto on Tuesday evening, according to Modesto police.

Dearing Kouer was arrested following the accident that took place on Carver Road and West Briggsmore Avenue at about 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1.

Police said Kouer was driving a gray Infiniti southbound on Carver Road when he passed a that was stopped at a red light. 

He then entered the intersection of Carver Road and West Briggsmore Avenue, failed to stop for a red light, and crossed into the eastbound lanes of Briggsmore Avenue. 

Kouer ended up colliding with a tractor-trailer that was making a turn at the intersection.

Passengers in Kouer's vehicle, identified as cousins Jayden Chhue, 15, and Aalvin Chhue, 17, along with their friend, Jose Espinoza, 16, died following the collision.

One of the boys died at the hospital while the other two died at the scene.

Dearing Kouer Arrested after Fatal Modesto Crash 

Kouer and another passenger in his vehicle, identified as Jashwin Chaudhary, and the driver of the big rig, were expected to survive.

Authorities arrested Kouer on charges of vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment.

Authorities said the victims killed in the crash were high school students at Grace M. High School.

Authorities are still investigating the collision.
