Xu Zhao Among 2 Killed in Interstate 5 Collision at Highway 140
Gustine, California (February 3, 2022) – Xu Zhao, 66, was among two people who died Tuesday afternoon in a collision with a tractor-trailer west of Gustine, authorities said.
The tragic wreck occurred at around 2:14 p.m. Tuesday, February 1, at the intersection of Interstate 5 and Highway 140.
According to the authorities, a 2011 Hyundai Sonata was traveling northbound on the Interstate 5 off-ramp and stopped at a stop sign at the intersection with Highway 140.
The Hyundai then entered the eastbound lane of Highway 140 and collided with a Peterbilt that was traveling eastbound on Highway 140.
Due to the impact of the collision, the Hyundai sustained major damage and the Peterbilt acquired moderate damage.
Xu Zhao Killed in Interstate 5 Crash in Gustine
Zhao, who was riding as a passenger in the Hyundai, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Hyundai driver, who was earlier identified as Song Xiuming, 68, also died at the crash site.
The driver of the Peterbilt, Brett Cico, 40, of Delhi, was not injured.
Drugs or alcohol were not considered a factor in the crash.
The accident remains under investigation.
