Leticia Cardona Injured in Fresno County Crash on Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street

Fresno County, California (March 6, 2022) – Leticia Cardona, 40, of Laton was hospitalized with major injuries following a collision that left her 14-year-old daughter dead in Fresno County Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
The incident took place in the area of Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street shortly after 7 a.m.
According to CHP, Ashley Engen, 35, of Hanfford was driving a 2020 Lexus sedan northbound on Cedar Street when she ran a stop sign at the intersection and was broadsided by a 2016 Honda Accord, which Cardona was driving west on Mt. Whitney Avenue.
The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway and they crashed through a chain link fence.

The Lexus also rolled multiple times and came to a rest upright.
Cardona's daughter was a passenger in her vehicle and died in the collision.
Cardona and Engen were transported to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno with major injuries.
Engen's 15-year-old daughter was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash, CHP said.
The investigation is ongoing.
