Marissa Cardona ID'd as 14-Year-Old Girl Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash at Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street in Fresno County

Fresno County, California (March 7, 2022) – Marissa Cardona, 14, of Laton, has been identified as the girl who died Saturday morning in a traffic collision in Fresno County, according to officials.
The incident took place in the area of Mt. Whitney Avenue and Cedar Street shortly after 7 a.m. on March 5.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Ashley Engen, 35, of Hanfford was driving a 2020 Lexus sedan northbound on Cedar Street when she ran a stop sign at the intersection and was broadsided by a 2016 Honda Accord, which Leticia Cardona, 40, of Laton, was driving west on Mt. Whitney Avenue.
The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway and they crashed through a chain link fence.
The Lexus also rolled multiple times and came to a rest upright.
Marissa, who was a passenger in the Honda, died in the collision.
Marissa's mother, Leticia, sustained major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in downtown Fresno.
Engen was also hospitalized with major injuries.
Engen's 15-year-old daughter was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be factors in the crash, CHP said.
The investigation is ongoing.
