, California (April 5, 2022) – 28-year-old Andrew Joseph Merritt of has been identified as the motorcyclist who died in a crash that sparked fire Tuesday morning in Redlands, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just before 9 a.m. on westbound near Tennessee Street.

Merritt was riding a Civic motorcycle at a high rate of speed when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and hit two vehicles. The motorcyclist went down, and the bike caught fire.

First responders found the rider lying down in the No. 1 lane.

Merritt was pronounced dead at the scene, and a coroner representative was requested to respond.

Caltrans was also called to help close some traffic lanes and direct traffic around the scene.

CHP is investigating the accident.
