Middletown, California (April 12, 2022) – The Lake County Sheriff's Office has identified the driver who died in a Friday afternoon head-on collision on Highway 29 as Alisa Anne Pettey-Torres.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the 59-year-old Hidden Valley Lake woman was driving a 2005 Toyota Corolla southbound on Highway 29, south of Grande Road. At the same time, 49-year-old David Thurber of Hidden Valley Lake was headed northbound on Highway 29 in a 2012 BMW X5, approaching Pettey-Torres.

Investigators said, for unknown reasons, Pettey-Torres's sedan crossed the double-yellow lines and collided head-on with the BMW. Both vehicles stopped on the northbound shoulder.

Pettey-Torres was trapped inside her car. Responding firefighters extricated her and determined she had sustained injuries. Efforts to save her life were not fruitful, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thurber was treated for minor injuries.

According to police, both drivers were wearing their safety belts, and alcohol or drugs are not believed to be factors contributing to the crash.

Middletown, California April 10, 2022) – One person was killed in a head-on collision on Friday evening in Middletown, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The wreck happened on Highway 29 near Grange Road just before 5:20 p.m. on April 8.

CHP said a white sedan and a black one were involved in the collision.

The two collided head-on for unknown reasons.

One other party was treated for minor injuries.

The crash caused a closure of Highway 29 as authorities worked at the scene.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
