Update: Man Killed, 4 Injured in San Jose Crash Involving Stolen Car in Police Pursuit

San Jose, California (April 22, 2022) – A man driving a stolen vehicle died, and four others were hospitalized after the car collided with another vehicle Friday morning in San Jose, as per a local news source.
The collision involved a 2014 Honda CRV, which had reportedly been stolen in a recent carjacking, and a 2022 Toyota sedan.
The vehicles collided at around 1:19 a.m. at N. 1st Street and Montague Expressway.
According to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, a sheriff's sergeant spotted the Honda in the area of N. 1st Street and Younger Avenue and attempted to pull it over. The driver failed to yield and prompted the sergeant to start a pursuit that ended shortly after in a crash.
The Honda was traveling southbound on N. 1st Street when it ran a red light at Montague and collided with the Toyota, which was going west on Montague with a green light.
The man driving the Honda was taken to the hospital with major injuries. He later died of his injuries at the hospital. A man and two juvenile females who were passengers in the Honda were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The man driving the Toyota was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
The intersection remained closed for several hours following the accident.
