, California (April 24, 2022) – Authorities are investigating a Sunday afternoon two-vehicle accident that left two people with major injuries in Fresno.

The accident occurred at about 4:00 p.m. at the intersection of Avenue and Chestnut Avenue.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a woman in her late 60s was headed northbound on Chestnut Avenue in a Chevy Silverado when she collided with a white GMC Yukon that was headed westbound on Clayton Avenue.

The GMC, driven by a man in his 40s, allegedly blew through the stop sign and T-boned the woman in the Silverado, flipping both of their cars.

Both drivers sustained major injuries and were hospitalized for treatment.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

Chestnut Avenue is not a controlled intersection, meaning it doesn't have a stoplight. There is a stop sign on Clayton Avenue that has a warning telling drivers, “Cross traffic does not stop.”

The crash remains under investigation.
