Domingo Lopez Injured in Fatal Santa Maria Crash on Philbric and Betteravia Roads

, California (May 4, 2022) – 32-year-old Domingo Perez Lopez of Santa Maria suffered major injuries in a deadly crash in Santa Maria Monday morning, according to CHP.

The crash occurred at about 6:30 a.m. on May 2, in the area of Philbric and Betteravia roads.

Lopez was southbound on Philbric Road in a 2007 Honda Civic when he tried to make a left turn onto eastbound Betteravia Road and was struck on the left side by a westbound 2006 Peterbilt semi- driven by Fidel Gomes Reyes, 64, of Santa Maria.

The semi went off the side of the road and slammed into a utility pole and a fence. The impact caused the big rig's trailer to overturn.

A 44-year-old Santa Maria man, who was a passenger in the Honda, was killed in the crash.

Lopez, Reyes, and another passenger in the Honda, Servillan Perez Lopez, of Santa Maria, were taken to Marian Regional Medical Center for treatment. 

Lopez had major injuries, while the other two patients sustained moderate injuries.

The crash impacted a power pole, and wires fell onto the roadway. The Pacific Gas & Electric Co. crew responded to clear the scene.

An investigation to determine the cause of the accident is ongoing.
