Fatal Crash involving U-Haul and Tanker at Highway 46 and Highway 33 in Kern County

Kern County, California (May 7, 2022) – The California Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a fuel tanker and a U-Haul at an intersection in Kern County on Saturday afternoon.

The collision occurred at about 2:14 p.m. p.m. at Highway 46 and Highway 33 near Blackwell's Corner General Store.

An 88-year-old man from Oceano was driving a 2014 GMC eastbound on Highway b46 when he failed to stop at a red light and slammed into the side of a tanker trailer.

The driver of the GMC was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger in the GMC was hospitalized with moderate injuries.

No additional details regarding the crash are available at this moment.
