Carlos Miguel Killed in Merced County Crash on Highway 99 near Applegate Road
Merced County, California (May 17, 2022) – Carlos Miguel, 28, of Turlock, has been identified by the Merced County Sheriff's Coroner's Office as the man who was killed in an early Monday morning crash in Merced County.
According to California Highway Patrol, the incident took place on Highway 99 north of Applegate Road at around 1 a.m. on May 16.
Miguel was driving a 2010 BMW 328i northbound on Highway 99 when he slammed into a parked paving vehicle in a construction zone.

Authorities believe Miguel entered northbound Highway 99 at a closed on-ramp at Applegate and traveled along a newly paved section of the road.
The vehicle then went off the pavement and onto a dirt roadway, where it rolled after hitting a K-rail and landed against the paving machine.
Miguel died following the collision.
Alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the incident, which remained under investigation.
