Mother, Child Injured in Imperial Beach Accident at 11th Street and Fern Avenue

Imperial Beach, California (May 25, 2022) – A mother and her child were struck and injured by a suspected DUI driver in Imperial Beach on Tuesday evening, according to the authorities.
The incident took place just before 8:15 p.m. on May 24, at 11th Street and Fern Avenue.
According to police, a mother and her child were riding bicycles in the area when a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 78-year-old driver struck them.

The victims were taken to a hospital. The child had minor injuries while the mother was hospitalized with major injuries.
The driver of the Chevrolet was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs.
The driver was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
An investigation into the collision is underway.

- When passing a bicyclist, always maintain a minimum of three feet of space, and also be patient when driving behind a bicyclist.
- Do not drive when impaired. Do not use your phone while driving.
