Jose Celedon Arrested after Fatal Menifee Motorcycle Accident on Cottonwood Canyon Road

, California (June 3, 2022) – Jose Antonio Celedon, 41, was arrested after a suspected DUI accident that occurred early Tuesday morning in Menifee, according to the authorities.

The incident happened just before 5:15 a.m. on May 31, on Cottonwood Canyon Road and Bundy Canyon Road.

Celedon was driving a sedan southbound on Cottonwood Canyon Road when he tried to make a left turn onto Bundy Canyon Road and collided with a westbound motorcyclist.

The motorcyclist, identified as Luis Christian Silva, 32, of Winchester, was ejected by the impact and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Celedon was arrested and booked into the Byrd Detention Center in for felony drunk driving, DUI causing great bodily injury, and second-degree murder.

He was booked into the jail and his bail set at $1 million.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
