Robert Rivas Killed in Bakersfield Accident at Union and East California Avenues

Bakersfield, California (June 6, 2022) – Robert Joseph Rivas, 47, of Porterville, has been identified as the man who was killed in a crash that happened at an intersection in Bakersfield early Friday morning, according to a report by the Bakersfield Police Department.
The wreck happened at Union and East California avenues at about 4:53 a.m. on June 3.
According to the authorities, Rivas was driving a pickup truck when he collided with a sedan in the area.
Rivas was taken to Kern Medical, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after.
The driver of the sedan was hospitalized with moderate injuries.
An investigation into the deadly collision is ongoing.
Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show
Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.
According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increases from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020.
NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
