Woman Killed, 5 Injured in Motorhome Crash on Interstate 15 in Barstow

Barstow, California (June 9, 2022) – A 76-year-old woman was killed in a Tuesday night traffic accident involving a motorhome that left several other parties injured in Barstow, authorities said.

The deadly accident happened at about 11:02 p.m., on June 7, on , south of East Main Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2003 Toyota Tundra, driven by a man and a 20-year-old male passenger, collided with a 2022 Ente Entegra motorhome driven by a 51-year-old man from .

The Toyota reportedly drove right into the path of the Ente, where its right side collided with the left front of the Ente.

As a result of the crash impact, both vehicles traveled up an ascending dirt embankment and came to rest against a concrete storage facility building.

Officials said all parties involved in the mishap were trapped in their vehicles and were extricated by the first responders.

Sadly, the 76-year-old woman, who was a passenger in the Ente, was taken to Barstow Community Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

A 23-year-old person was transported to University Medical Center for moderate injuries, and the remaining passengers of the Ente were transported to BCH with minor injuries. They were all in the Ente.

The driver and the passenger of the Toyota sustained major injuries and were both taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in for treatment.

Drugs or alcohol were not suspected of having played a role in the accident.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • Pedestrian fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
