Zeomara Cohen Killed in Porter Ranch Crash on Highway 118 near Reseda Boulevard

Porter Ranch, California (June 10, 2022) – Zeomara Cohen, 31, of Northridge was killed in a collision in Porter Ranch, , on Thursday night.

The crash happened at around 11:45 p.m. on the 118 Freeway near Zelzah Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol established that David Cohen, 31, of Northridge, was driving a white 2019 Lexus RX 350 westbound when he made an unsafe turning movement and crashed into concrete sewer drainage and caught fire.

The family was returning from a graduation party when the vehicle crashed.

The crash triggered a chain-reaction crash involving several other vehicles.

Zeomara was riding in the SUV and was killed in the crash.

The couple's three daughters identified as Cienna Marquez, 9; Chanel Cohen, 4; and Chloe Cohen, 4 months old; were extricated and transported to the hospital with moderate injuries.

David was hospitalized with moderate injuries before being arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI.

Los Angeles, California (June 10, 2022) – One person was killed in a multi-vehicle collision that happened near Porter Ranch in Los Angeles on Thursday night.

According to a report by the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened on westbound Highway 118 near Reseda Boulevard at around 11:42 p.m.

Four vehicles were recovered at the accident scene. The circumstances under which the collision occurred, however, were not immediately established.

CHP says one person died in the collision.

More details about the crash were not provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
