Randall Lewis Killed in Head-On Crash on Interstate 5 in Redding

, California (June 12, 2022) – Randall James Lewis, 69, of Bella , has been identified as the man who was killed in a Friday night wrong-way crash that left one other person injured in Redding, authorities said.

The deadly accident occurred at about 9:18 p.m., on June 10, on , north of Market Street overcrossing.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a 2014 Chevrolet Equinox, driven by Devyn Zeno Lewis, 51, of Shasta Lake, was headed northbound in the number one lane when it collided head-on with Lewis's 2005 Ford Explorer pickup that was traveling the roadway.

As a result of the crash impact, Chevrolet crashed into the left side of a 2015 Kenworth -tractor operated by Gurtej Singh Sidhu, 38, of . The truck was traveling northbound in the No. 2 lane.

Sadly, James Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene.

Zeno Lewis was seriously injured and was taken to Mercy Medical Center for treatment. Sidhu didn't have any known injuries.

More details regarding the accident were not immediately available.

The crash remains under investigation.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.
