2 Women Killed in Compton Crash Late Sunday Night Identified

, California (June 14, 2022) – Authorities have released the names of two women who were killed late Sunday near a possible street takeover in Compton.

18-year-old Jennyfer Flores from and 20-year-old Michellie Gonzalez from Cudahy died in a two-vehicle crash that occurred around 11:42 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022.

The deadly crash happened at the intersection of southbound Wilmington Avenue and eastbound Stockwell Street and involved a red Honda and an SUV.

Initial reports indicated that the deadly crash occurred during a street takeover. However, it was not immediately clear whether the collision was related to the takeover.

According to the County Sheriff's Department, both Flores and Gonzalez were in a red Honda at the time of the crash.

The SUV driver was traveling southbound on Wilmington while the Honda heading eastbound on Stockwell Street.

2 Women Killed in Compton Crash at Wilmington Avenue and Stockwell Street

Los Angeles, California (June 13, 2022) – Two women were killed in a violent car crash near Compton on Sunday night.

The deadly crash happened at around 11:42 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022, at southbound Wilmington Avenue and eastbound Stockwell Street.

The California Highway Patrol says an SUV was traveling southbound on Wilmington when he struck a Honda traveling eastbound on Stockwell.

Two women inside the Honda were killed in the crash.

The identities of the two women were not immediately disclosed

More details about the crash were not immediately provided.

An investigation into the accident is underway.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
