, California (June 20, 2022) – 23-year-old Luvia Lopez, of , has been identified as the woman who died in a car crash on Saturday morning in Westchester.

At around 6:28 a.m. on June 18, the California Highway Patrol along with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a traffic collision at 6925 S. La Cienega Blvd.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash, but the circumstances of the collision were not immediately established.

Luvia was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated by the firefighters. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident.

A man was rushed to a hospital for injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Westchester, California (June 18, 2022) – A multi-vehicle collision that occurred early Saturday morning in Westchester left a woman dead and a man with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The incident took place at 6935 S. La Cienega Boulevard at around 6:28 a.m.

Four vehicles were involved in the collision and one of them trapped a woman inside.

The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Emergency crews transported an injured man to a hospital.

Further details on the collision were not immediately available.

Authorities are investigating to determine the cause of the accident.

Traffic Collision Fatalities Reached a 16-Year High in 2021, Early Estimates Show

Newly released estimates by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) show that fatalities reached a 16-year high last year.

According to the Early Estimate of Motor Vehicle Traffic Fatalities in 2021 report released by NHTSA, about 42,915 people were killed in traffic collisions in 2021. This shows a 10.5% increase from the 38,828 fatalities reported in 2020. NHTSA says the projection is the highest number of traffic deaths since 2005 as well as the largest percentage rise in the history of the Fatality Analysis Reporting System.

The report indicates that the traffic fatalities in the following categories showed relatively large increases in 2021, as compared to 2020;

      • Fatalities in multi-vehicle collisions went up 16%
      • Fatalities among drivers 65 and older rose by 14%
      • fatalities up 13%
      • Fatalities in crashes involving at least one large up 13%
      • Daytime fatalities up 11% Fatalities on urban roads up 16%
      • Motorcyclist deaths up 9% Bicyclist deaths up 5%
      • Fatalities in speeding-related mishaps up 5%
      • Fatalities in police-reported, alcohol-involvement collisions up 5%
